Anne Marie Tyrie Garcia age 67 of Brownwood passed away Friday May 3, 2013 at her residence.
Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday May 7, 2013 in the Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel. Private interment will be held at a later date.
Anne was born July 16, 1945 to Arthur and Pearl Pouget in Michigan. Anne moved to Brownwood in 1981 and was a beloved caregiver to many families over the years before going to work for Wal-mart. Anne attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church for many years.
She is survived by her children David Horn and wife LeAnne of Humble, Alicia Fowler of Houston, Don Horn and wife Dawn of Brownwood, Michelle Bessent of Arlington, and Bobbie Anne Brown of Graham; 20 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services for Marlene Jane Thomas Emerson, 78, of Brownwood, formerly of Midland, will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, May 7, in the Netherton Funeral Home Chapel with David Barnum officiating. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Netherton Funeral Home and Cremations. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Monday, May 6, at the funeral home.
Marlene Jane Thomas Emerson went to be with her Heavenly Father on May 1, 2013, at a local hospital in Abilene Texas.
Marlene was born on March 8, 1935, in Brownfield Texas to the late Ora Jane (Perry) Thomas and Jesse B. Thomas. She married Carl Emerson on January 30, 1950; he preceded her in death in April of 2009. Marlene had lived in Midland for over 50 years before moving to Brownwood with her husband. She loved to travel and collected a “rock” from each place they traveled to.
Marlene had a passion and a knack for fishing, and she was known to out-fish anyone that was with her! She also had a great love of family and enjoyed large get-togethers in her home. She will truly be missed by all that knew and loved her.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughters, Linda Daugherty of Lake Brownwood and Betty Schwartz and husband Steve, of Blanket; one brother, Weldon Thomas of Lubbock; and two sisters-in-law, Kathryn Emerson and Marian Emerson, both of Bangs. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Bro. Jason Stagg was born April 5, 1932, in Ville Platte, La. The eldest son of the late Nathan and Lillie Mae Stagg. Jason accepted Jesus Christ early in life in Houston, Texas. He was a God fearing man that loved his wife, children and friends. He wore a smile that brightened up any room. He always wanted the best for his family. He worked for FMC in Houston, Swift Lam Plant in Early, and Kohler CO. in Brownwood until his retirement. Jason had many other jobs; some were freebies, and some were not. He helped anyone that he could. He stayed busy gardening, working on our cars, etc. He loved watching all sports and would make the children watch them with him. Jason was married to Sadie Jane Stagg in 1961 and to this marriage, three girls were born. The lord took Sadie in 1969. In 1973 he joined and attended faithfully, the New Testament Holiness Church in Bangs. He later met Fannie Mae Brown and they were married on Jan. 14, 1977. He became the patriarch of a blended family that included his three girls as well as Fannies five children. Later the birth of their youngest daughter was added.

Funeral services for Betty Brightwell Hale age 79, will be at 10:00 AM Saturday May 4, 2013 in the Heartland Funeral Chapel Early, Texas. Interment will follow at Macedonia/Weeden Cemetery. She passed away Monday, April 29, 2013 in Brownwood, Texas. Betty was born November 6, 1933 in Desdemona, Texas to Odie and Minnie Jones Brightwell. She married her high school sweetheart Gerald Hale on November 6, 1949.
She was an assistant manager of TG&Y in Denver City, Texas. Betty was an outstanding cook, loved to sew and do ceramics. She is survived by four daughter; Shirley and Larry York of Sierra Vista, Az., Kay Harris of Abilene, Vickie and Jack McCombs of De Leon, and Kathy and Dennis Kelly of Brownwood. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Memorial service for Alma “Ruth” Laird Fine, 78, of Bangs, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2013, at the Heartland Funeral Chapel in Early, with Kelly Crenshaw officiating. She will be cremated, and a private interment service will be held at a later date.
She was born March 27, 1935, in Bangs, to Charlie L. and Bertha Underwood Laird. She was married to Robert Fine on Aug. 8, 1953. She retired in 2001 from the school cafeteria at Bangs ISD after 26 years. She was a loving, mother and had a special love for animals.
She is survived by her daughter, Jewel Fine of Bangs; sister-in-law, Jean Laird of Early; brother-in-law, Raymond Brucker of Brownwood; and brother-in-law, Casey Fine and wife Virginia of Peoria, Ariz. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews, and many special family friends.

Bill "Wild Bill" DeShazer, 73, of Lake Brownwood, Texas died on Monday, April, 29, 2013 at his home of cancer. Funeral services have been set for 10:00 A.M. Thursday, May 2 at Davis-Morris Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 4:00 P.M in the Hillside Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Snyder, Texas. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M. on Wednesday, May 1, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Bill was born on October 29, 1939 in Clarksville, Texas. His parents were Jet and Ramah Ward. On October 9, 1982, he married the love of his life, Janice Melton of Midland, Texas. Bill is survived by two daughters; Jamie Frances Sewell & husband Dub of Greeley, Colorado & Dana Starr & husband Paul of Ransom Canyon, Texas. One son; Max Cotton & wife Callye, of Lubbock, Texas. One sister; Bettye Stevens & husband Bill of Arlington, Texas. Grandchildren; Chris Starr, Andrew Starr, Kyle Cotton, Kade Cotton, Kolton Cotton, Coy Sewell, Jaylee Sewell, Payton Slaymaker & Taylor Slaymaker. Numerous nieces, nephews and a special friend Charlie Ed Elliot of Midland, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his faithful dog, B.D. which stood for Bill's Dog.

Funeral services for Lee O'Daniel Ballard will be Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in the Heartland Funeral Chapel Early with Rev. Ruben Packer officiating. Interment will follow at Greenleaf Cemetery with military honors.
Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Ballard passed away Monday in Brownwood, Texas. He was born July 13, 1938 in San Angelo, Texas to Eddie and Tiny Elliott Ballard. He lived most of his life in Brownwood, Texas. Lee served his country in the United States Army, serving a tour of duty in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Victory Baptist Church in Brownwood. He loved to fish, hunt arrowheads, gardening, hunting, and playing his guitar and singing. On December 27, 1974 he married Sally Smith in Brownwood.
Lee is survived by his wife Sally Ballard of Brownwood, his sons; Gary Ballard of Austin, Vince Carriger of Jeddo, Mark Ballard of Oklahoma, Dale Ballard of Bryan-College Station, Daniel Ballard of Thorndale. Three daughter; Lee Ballard of Brownwood, Sandy Robbins of Red Rock and Rhonda Page of Minnesota.

Gerald Morris, 73, of Zephyr passed away Tuesday April 30, 2013 at his residence.
Gerald was born Aug. 19, 1939 in Zephyr to Tobe and Eva Morris. He was a graduate of Brownwood High School in 1958 and married Dee Mullins on Oct. 9, 1961.
Gerald retired from Verizon after 35 years of service and was a member of the Zephyr First Baptist Church. Gerald loved to hunt, fish and bowl and bowled numerous 300 games.
He is survived by his wife Dee Morris of Zephyr, his special dog Katy, and his two American Eskimos Sierra and Cheyenne. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a special caregiver JoAnn Carrier of Brownwood.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Beverly Bowers; and a brother, Delbert Morris.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at the Historical Zephyr Tabernacle with Bro. Brian Griffin and Dallas Huston officiating. Special music will be performed by Bill Slaymaker. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m.. Monday at Blaylock Funeral Home.

Mrs. Goodwin passed away on Monday, April 29, 2013, at the Community Hospital in San Angelo .
Elvira Johanna Woerner was born on May 3, 1934, in Fredericksburg Texas , the youngest daughter of five girls and two boys born to Edmund Woerner and Selima (Neffendorf) Woerner. She married James Goodwin in January of 1955; he preceded her in death on March 24, 1992. Elvira had worked as a sewing machine operator for over 20 years at Brownwood Manufacturing and had lived in Brownwood for the last 55 years. She was a devoted mother, a loving grandmother, a doting great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved her.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her children; Virginia and Dennis Sanderson of Early, Jimmy Goodwin, Mike and Pam Goodwin and Linda Westerman, all of Brownwood, grandchildren; Melissa Sanderson-Taylor of Brownwood, Elizabeth and Brett Stephens of Comanche, James Sanderson of Lamesa, Kevin Sanderson of Santa Anna, Angela Sanderson of Temple, Daniel Sanderson of Early, Justin and Amanda Goodwin of Brownwood and Lacey Westerman of Brownwood. She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren; one sister, Olga Kothe and special niece, Glenda Kothmann, both of Fredericksburg .
