Shipley Thankful to have been Part of Brownwood Lion Tradition, Will Leave at End of Month

shipleywithteamarticleAlthough it was a difficult decision, Brownwood High School Athletics Director and Head Football Coach Bob Shipley will start in his new position at the University of Texas the first part of May.

According to Shipley, the decision to leave Brownwood was difficult, and it is a very special place to his family.

“It was a difficult decision.  Brownwood has been so good to us,” said Shipley.  “It’s tough to leave a place that’s been so special.  Brownwood will always be home to Jaxon and Addie Jane.”

Shipley stated that he and his children, Jaxon and Addie Jane, took pride in being part of the Brownwood Lions tradition, which was one of the things he enjoyed most about his time in Brownwood.

“Just the way our kids, school and community all take such pride in being Brownwood Lions.  The people that I’ve worked with, these other coaches are very special,” said Shipley.  “I loved being around the kids.  They and the coaches made this place very enjoyable.  The administration, school board and community as a whole have been incredible."

Coach Shipley Resigns, Takes New Position at University of Texas

shipleywithteamarticleCoach Bob Shipley will conclude his stellar four year career at Brownwood ISD as he announced his resignation this morning to take a new position at the University of Texas.

“While we are disappointed to see Coach Shipley leave, we are happy for him and the great opportunity he has,” said Brownwood ISD Superintendent, Dr. Reece Blincoe. “Bob has done a great job for all BISD athletic programs.”

Shipley has been named to the newly created position of Football Analyst in the player personnel department at The University of Texas, head coach Mack Brown announced Monday.

“I’m very excited about joining the Texas football program and appreciate Coach Brown giving me this opportunity,” Shipley said. “I believe in him. He's the kind of coach a dad dreams of his son being able to grow up and play for, and my sons have had an incredible experience at Texas. I think I bring a unique prospective to the staff. Having been a college coach, a longtime high school coach and having been around the program for almost 10years with my sons, this is a position that just seemed right for me. Assisting with recruiting is something that I have experience in and love to do.”

In his role, Shipley will assist with the coordination and implementation of the daily operational, administrative and logistical processes within the football program. He will co-coordinate the walk-on program, assist with film cut-ups and distribution of prospective student-athletes to coaching staff, support the planning and execution of the annual high school coaching clinic and the summer football camp, and assist with hosting prospective student-athletes and guests on official and unofficial visits to campus. In addition, he will assist with the high school relations, updating recruiting lists, monitoring contacts and evaluations conducted by the coaching staff, and securing transcripts in collaboration with the student services department.

The top 4 places in each event qualified to move on to regionals.

Track coach Don Hood said that he was very happy with the performance of the students.

“I was very pleased with how we competed,” Hood said.  “The weather made it very tough to get warm and stay focused.   I thought ours did a great job as a whole of getting through this meet.”

Coach Hood outlined some memorable moments from the area meet held in Stephenville on Thursday.

“Highlights were both Vicki Henry and Cullen Ruth in the shot and discus.  Vicki set a new school record in the shot.  Both throwers set personal bests in both events,” Hood said.   “Lexie (Lewis) was stellar.  She brought her fast legs to this one.  I was also proud of Seth Owen   He competed in two tough field events and came through in both.  Then he anchored our 4 x 1 relay to a qualifying spot.”
