Principally Coins & Metal Detectors Now Open in Early

Best known for being a principal at Woodland Heights Elementary and previously South Elementary, now retired Bob Turner has opened a unique business, Principally Coins & Metal Detectors, in Early.

Turner has always enjoyed collecting coins, is involved in the Brown County Coin Club, and has traveled to sell his inventory at the occasional coin show.  After retirement, he worked at a few local businesses but always wanted to have his own store.  On February 21st, Turner opened the doors of the his new business, Principally Coins & Metal Detectors, which is located at 3002 Early Blvd., just 2.8 miles northeast of Sonic.

Chamber Holds Ribbon Cutting for Opening of Christian Women's Job Corps' New Location

The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting Tuesday for the Heart of Texas Christian Women's Job Corps to celebrate their new location.

The organization recently relocated from the Family Services Center to 2410 Coggin Avenue thanks to a generous gift from Brownwood resident Mette Lundsgaard.

Lundsgaard recently purchased and donated the building to the Christian Women's Job Corps.

HPU Names Randy Yeakley as Vice President for Development

Leslie_RandyYeakleyHoward Payne University recently named Randy Yeakley ’83 to the position of vice president for development. He will assume this role on March 18.

Yeakley will oversee the annual fund, programmatic fundraising and other operations at the university’s Harrison House. He will also serve on the Administrative Council.

He joins HPU from LeTourneau University in Longview where he has served as director of research, corporate and foundation giving since 2005. Other experience includes serving as director and manager of the Sabine Valley Center in Longview, as MR crisis services manager at MH/MR of Tarrant County, and as health educator for HMR of Fort Worth.

In addition to a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from HPU, he holds a Master of Science degree in industrial and organizational psychology from Lamar University.

Brownwood Daycares Among Workforce Solutions Rising Star Award Recipients

The Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas Board recognized thirteen regional child care providers at their February Board meeting, as having achieved Texas Rising Star (TRS) Provider status within the past year.  A TRS Provider serves Texas Workforce Commission-subsidized children and voluntarily offers quality care that exceeds the State's Minimum Child Care Licensing Standards in areas such as health and safety, group size, child/staff ratios, caregiver training and age-appropriate curricula and activities.

Early Chamber Names Bertrand Technology Solutions as Business of the Month

The Early Chamber of Commerce presents Bertrand Technology Solutions the Business of the Month Award for February 2013.

Bertrand Technology Solutions supports business technology needs by providing specialized and prompt service, and currently assists customers within 120 miles of the Early/Brownwood area.  Ray Bertrand (owner) says “The heart of our business is to be of service, use our business however we can as a ministry to others, and support our local community. Texas Juvenile Justice Department to Hold Job Fair

The Texas Juvenile Justice Department will hold a job fair in early March for Juvenile Correctional Officer positions.

Interviews will be conducted at the Ron Jackson Training Center (across the street from the main facility) on March 6, 2013 from 9am-4:00pm. Entry-level salary is between $2322.40 – $2750.04/month with full State of Texas benefits package.  Career ladder opportunities are available.

Applicants must be 21 years of age and a High school diploma or GED is required.  Experience working with juvenile delinquents is helpful.  Applicants must be able to work shift work.

First Week Prizes Awarded in Brownwood Chamber TRC Program

The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce announced volunteer reward earners after closing out the first week of the Total Resource Campaign.

Warren Yehl of Brownwood Regional Medical Center and Karina Daniel of Howard Payne University tied for the top producer spot for the week earning a $325 reward check each.  Lisa Tipton from BrownwoodNews.com came in third for the week earning a $200 reward.
