Brownwood Students Headed to State HOSA Competition

Five Brownwood High School students will compete in the state Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) contest in San Antonio on March 29-31.

State finalists for this year include Steve Arceneaux,  Taelor Eagloski , Leanna Johnson, and Lizette Lopez – all taking the Kaiser Permenente Scholarship Test;  and Candace Rodriguez competing in Dental Spelling.

Nika Visits Students at Weekday Preschool

Buddy Preston, Fire Marshal for Brownwood Fire Department, visited First United Methodist Weekday Preschool on Friday and brought Nika the arson dog to visit the students.  Preston talked about what Nika does and how she helps him investigates fires.  Preston visited with all the students, ranging in age from 2-5 years old.  He talked to the boys and girls about fire safety and how he investigates fires with Nika's help.  He explained to the students that she can smell over 200 different types of scents associated with fires.  He was the school’s second visitor this month.

Early Cub Scouts Hold Pinewood Derby

Early Cub Scouts Pack 4 held their Pinewood Derby on Saturday as scouts showed their car building skills as their creations raced to the finish line.

As a long held tradition in the Cub Scouts, the Pinewood Derby teams an adult coach and a Cub Scout as they design, carve, paint, weigh, refine, and race the car.  The race takes place in 3 car heats and is divided by age groups.  Awards were presented for the fastest times in each group and then an overall grand champion is chosen in a final race of the first place winners.

Brownwood Students Jump Rope for Heart

A tradition at Woodland Heights elementary school each year, the annual Jump Rope for Heart event gave students a chance to exhibit their jump roping skills and raise money for the American Heart Association on Friday.
