Santa Anna One Act Play Advances to District Competition

The Santa Anna One-Act Play, “The Insanity of Mary Girard”, recently advanced from Zone to District contest along with Veribest ISD. The play, written by Lanie Robertson and directed by Ginger Vinson, is a dark and disturbing story about a woman who is placed in an insane asylum for questionable reasons. Other schools participating in the Zone contest were Panther Creek’s “The Kentucky Cycle: Fire in the Hole”, Bronte’s “The Beggar’s Opera”, Novice’s “Childhood”, and Veribest’s “Do Not Go Gentle”.

Heartland Cruisers Hold Car Show at Runaway Train

The Heartland Cruisers car club took advantage of a beautiful Saturday afternoon and held a classic car show at the Runaway Train Café.

Thirty-three classic cars were on hand at the “Cruise to the Train” event which was held Saturday from noon to 4pm.

Quilters Guild Gives Blessings of Quilts to Needy

Winchell Volunteer Fire Department to Host Turkey Hunter’s BBQ 3/31

A Turkey Hunter’s BBQ is being hosted by the Winchell Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday, March 31 at the Winchell VFD Fire House.

Brisket, chicken and sausage with sides of beans, potato salad, desert and ice tea will be served from 11am to 8pm at a cost of $8 per plate.

Organizers described the quality of the meats and the care that goes into cooking this feast.

“Winchell’s world famous brisket is slow cooked over mesquite coals for 16 hours simmering in sweet and tangy BBQ sauce.  Our chicken is marinated in a special rub then slow cooked for four hours over mesquite wood.

Hull wins Ultimate Scramble Championship at Star of Texas Stock Show & Rodeo

HunterHullCalfScrambleHunter Hull, a freshman from Early, Texas caught a scramble calf at the Ultimate Scramble Championship at the Star of Texas Stock Show and Rodeo in Austin, Texas on March 17th.

Hunter, representing 4-H, was one of the 112 participants from 4-H and FFA clubs who entered the scramble.  He received $1000 to purchase either a market or breeding animal to show at the Star of Texas Stock Show next year.

At the 2012 Brown County Youth Fair, Hunter showed breeding Boer and market goats.

65% of Santa Anna’s High School Academic Team Advances to Regionals

Santa Anna High School traveled to Trent to compete academically against 13 other schools on Wednesday March 21st. They returned with a third place finish overall and with 13 of their 20 students advancing to Regional competition.

Center for Life Resources Adds Three to Wall of Honor

The Center for Life Resources held a reception and ceremony on Thursday to add three to the center’s Wall of Honor.   Patti Jordan and Don & Shirley Ramsey were given the honor during the event for their years of service to Center for Life Resources.

Patti Jordan, daughter of Ferris and Janie Clements, was a dedicated member of the Center for Life Resources Board of Directors with nearly a decade of service before her resignation in August of 1999.

Stop by our office during regular business hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or Wednesday from 1 to 5 p.m. Purchase your ticket to expedite your time in line on the day of the event.*  The Empty Bowls Project will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 29 at the Brownwood Coliseum. HPU to Host Workshop for Couples Considering Marriage

Howard_Payne_logosmallThe step between dating and marriage is a large one, and Howard Payne University wants to help couples make sure they are ready for the commitment. HPU’s Family Studies program will present “Fit to be Tied,” a five-week pre-marital enrichment program open to students and members of the community.

The series will be hosted and facilitated by Dr. Keith Mask, professor and chair of the Department of Psychology and Family Studies; Jerry Leslie, a local marriage and family therapist; and students in HPU’s capstone Family Life Education class.

“Our premarital series provides dating and engaged couples with an excellent opportunity to make a significant investment in their relationship,” said Dr. Mask. “The series will assist couples in developing their communication and conflict resolution skills – two critical areas which will have a major impact on future marital satisfaction. While Fit to Be Tied’ will provide couples with a lot of helpful tools for building a strong marriage, it also will be delivered in a way that is both engaging and entertaining.”
