Hands On A House Contestants Present Fundraiser Checks to Fellow Contestants

Contestants of the Brownwood Reunion’s Hands on a House Competition held a fundraiser Friday and Saturday for fellow contestant Cecilio Chavarria & his wife Daniela.  Also receiving funds from the benefit is contestant Brandi White’s favorite organization Hope Home Ministries.  A check presentation was held on Tuesday afternoon at TexasBank, a sponsor of the event.

Second place Hands on a House winner 21-year-old Cecilio Chavarria, had entered the contest during Brownwood Reunion to win the house in hopes of selling it and using the proceeds to help pay off $4000 of legal work to gain Daniela’s citizenship papers.  A close friendship grew between many of the contestants and several wanted to help the Chavarrias since he didn’t win the house.

Local Students Awarded Pizza Parties for their Help in Brownwood Reunion’s Hands On a House Food Drive

In conjunction with the Brownwood Reunion Hands on a House Competition held during the weekend of September 20-22, participants and sponsors raised 10,979 canned goods in their annual food drive with help from these local schools.

Eight local elementary and middle schools recently participated in food drive.  For their help getting the food drive off to a great start with 6,147 cans, the top class at each school was awarded a pizza party hosted by organizers of the event Coldwell Banker and TexasBank.  Four of these parties took place last week.  The remaining schools will have parties this week.

Hands on a House Competition Raises over 10,000 Cans of Food for Local Food Banks

In conjunction with the Brownwood Reunion Hands on a House Competition held this past weekend, participants and sponsors raised 10,979 canned goods in their annual food drive with help from local schools.

Local elementary and middle schools participated in this food drive for the third year for the Hands on a House competition, bringing in a total of 6,147 cans during the event.  The top school in this challenge was Northwest Elementary School, collecting 2,171 cans.

The food raised in the drive benefits Good Samaritan Ministries and St. John’s Food Bank each year.

Totals from individual schools in the Kick-Start Food Drive were as follows:

1st Place:  Northwest Elementary  2,171 cans
Mrs. Kirwan’s 3rd grade class was the top class of their school collecting 195

2nd Place:  East Elementary 1,194 cans
Mrs. Nigrete’s Kindergarten class was the top class of their school collecting 158

3rd Place:  Woodland Heights Elementary 1,160 cans
Ms. Asebedo’s 1st grade class  was the top class of their school collecting 236

4th Place:  Coggin Elementary 550 cans
Ms. Kelley’s 4th grade class was the top class of their school collecting 167

Brownwood Reunion Celebration Parade Entry Winners Announced

Southside Church, organizer of the Brownwood Reunion Celebration Parade held this past Saturday announced the “Feels Like Home” Grand Parade entry winners.  Cash prizes were awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place entries in the parade.

The theme of this year’s parade was “Lights, Camera, Action” and 47 entries were featured consisting of floats, classic cars, performers, and marching bands.

2013 Brownwood Reunion Celebration Day 3 – Photo Gallery

The 2013 Brownwood Reunion Celebration came to a close Sunday evening with beautiful weather and plenty of great fun, food and music.

Sunday featured a lineup of local Christian music on several stages during the festival including Three Shades Blue, Blackbird and headliner Van Wilks.

The Hands on a House competition, the photography contest, and Classic Car show each came to a close and named their winners.

Plenty of activities continued on Sunday with the very entertaining David Hira Magic Show, Kids Zone, the Brownwood High School HOSA Smash-a-Car, bubble runners, carnival rides and tons of great food in the food courts.

Gaston and McNeal Named “People’s Choice” Award Winners at Reunion Photography Contest

The Brownwood Art Association announced that there was a tie in selecting the People’s Choice award winner at the annual Brownwood Reunion Celebration photo contest held this weekend at the Art Center in downtown Brownwood.  The co-winners will share the honor this year as selected by the public.

Christopher Gaston with his work “Autumn Rhapsody” and LaRay McNeal with “Light at the End of the Road” were the co-winners of the People’s Choice Award.  Gaston also won People’s Choice at last year’s Reunion photo contest.

Reunion Classic Car Show Winners Announced - Photos

The Brownwood Reunion Celebration’s Classic Car Show came to a close on Sunday and announced winners of the competition.  The show featured about 50 classic vehicles and was seen by thousands of people during the Reunion weekend inside the Brownwood Coliseum.

Local car club the Heartland Cruisers put the show together, all without charging admission fees to attendees or contestants.

This year organizers gave away six awards including Best of Show, four Outstanding Entry awards, and a Club Choice award on Sunday.  The first five awards were determined by votes cast from attendees who visited the show over the weekend. Organizers said that about 6000 ballots were cast during the voting. The Heartland Cruisers selected the Club Choice award.

Robinson and Boutelle Win Reunion’s Speed Climbing Contest

During this weekend’s Brownwood Reunion Celebration, the Brownwood Municipal Police Association (BMPA) held Brown County’s only speed climbing competition and winners were announced Sunday afternoon at the rock wall at the festival.

Jack Robinson was the junior winner with the fastest speed and Patrick Boutelle won the senior division of the climbing contest.

Each contestant entering the event was able to try three times to climb the rock wall.  The fastest time for each climber was counted toward the contest.  Proceeds from the event will be used to sponsor local scholarships and education for Brown County youth through the BMPA.  Prizes were sponsored by Aaron’s Furniture.
