The Early Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon cutting for their newest member, The Chatfield Assisted Living, located at 1605 Calvert Road in Brownwood.

Cities of Brownwood and Early Memorial Day Holiday Schedule for Trash Collection

City of Brownwood logo_smallThe Cities of Brownwood and Early will be closed Monday, May 27th in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.  All non-emergency city facilities will close and there will be no collection of residential waste.

Brownwood

Residents with blue or green carts, please note that your collection days are as follows.

Monday’s route will be collected on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s route will be collected on Wednesday.

Normal collection days will resume on Thursday, May 30th.

The Recycling Center and Landfill will be closed on Monday May 27th, 2013.

Early Chamber Luncheon Set for Friday to Feature Entrepreneur Program

mikemikeworthThe Early Chamber of Commerce will host their next monthly luncheon at Prima Pasta Italian Restaurant on Friday May 24, 2013 at 11:30 AM.

The guest speaker will be Mike Mikeworth with the West Texas Innovation Network.  Mike has been in the "people development business" throughout his careers that have spanned the private, governmental and non-profit work sectors. His foundational belief is that each person has a unique blend of gifts and aptitudes that directs his/her motivation to work. His topic will outline the FastTrac New Venture program written for entrepreneurs to help train and educate entrepreneurs.

HPU Staffer Named Chamber Ambassador of the Month

KarinaDanielChamberAmbassadorKarina Daniel, director of corporate, community and foundation relations at Howard Payne University, was named the May 2013 Ambassador of the Month by the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce. Chamber Ambassadors participate in various Chamber and community events and serve as the core volunteer group for the Chamber. The Ambassador of the Month is chosen based on participation in events and programs during the previous month.

Daniel first became involved with the Chamber in 2011 when she participated in Leadership Brownwood through then-employer Blaylock Funeral Home. In the fall of 2011, she volunteered for the Total Resource Campaign (TRC), the Chamber’s eight-week sponsorship and membership drive, and was appointed to the TRC Advisory Committee. She has continued to remain active with the TRC, this year helping to raise more than $118,000 in sponsorships for Chamber events as well as new Chamber memberships.

Daniel became a Chamber Ambassador in spring 2012 and has helped with Chamber activities such as ribbon cuttings, monthly lunches, Business After Hours events, the annual Chamber Banquet, business showcases and more.

Morelocks Given Excellence in Tourism Award

The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitor’s Bureau recognized Don and Debbie Morelock on Friday with the Excellence in Tourism Award.

The Morelocks, owners of Star of Texas Bed and Breakfast, were given the award as a result of online voting during National Travel and Tourism week earlier in May.  The Chamber awards this honor each year in May to a nominee who has an impact on the tourism industry in Brown County.

“Tourism has a direct impact on the jobs of those working at restaurants, lodging, convenience stores, and museums as well as city workers who help set up for special events,” said Brownwood Chamber Tourism Manager Sunni Modawell.

The Turtle Restaurant Hangs New Handmade Sign

TurtleSignInstallRecently the downtown area of Brownwood received a new addition to its character.  After years of success in Brownwood, the Turtle Restaurant was recently adorned with their newly handmade sign which was crafted by Blackout Signs of San Marcos.

“The artistic design is colorful by day and de-light-ful at night.” owner Mary Stanley said, "It was about time to put up a landmark.  We feel the joyful style of the sign represents our restaurant well.  The Turtle may be slow to get somewhere but it arrives in style."

Now the Turtle is clearly marked on the downtown stretch of Center Avenue in Brownwood along with another landmark sign for the Lyric Theatre added in the last few years.
