Funeral Services for Bernece Fisher Payne, 91, of Brownwood, Texas will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 16, 2012 at Heartland Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Skaggs officiating. Interment will follow in Greenleaf Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Payne passed away Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Payne was born on July 25, 1920 in O’Donnell, Texas to Herbert J. and Dora Dewberry Lee. During World War II she worked as a welder in the ship yards in Portland, Oregon. She also worked as a seamstress at Sidrans in Brownwood, and owned and operated Fisher’s Café at Proctor Lake for many years. She was a wonderful cook.Bernece lived most of her life in and around this area and was a member of the Coggin Avenue Baptist Church. She loved sewing, quilting and crocheting. She also enjoyed fishing and playing forty-two.
Survivors include sons Raymond Naron and wife Ruth of Abernathy, Texas, Adron Fisher and wife Carolyn of Brownwood, Texas, Darrell Fisher and wife Beth of Evant, Texas, daughter Carrolyn Pinson and husband Glynn of Early, Texas, and daughter-in-law Juanita Naron of Santa Anna, Texas. Her sisters, Lou Evelyn Humphrey and husband Dr. John Humphrey of Bangs, Texas and Henrietta Reed and husband Cordell of Sidney, Texas. She also leaves behind 20 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She loved them all!
Bernece was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clarence E. Fisher and a son,
John T. Naron, Sr.
